I was released:
my heart ran to you faster than my feet
and I
couldn’t wait to unwrap my body
to the warm river flowing around us
happy to work this life out
swimming with you
Yesterday’s mistakes
sink from our embrace,
our hearts’ pirouette
spins us softly to grace,
a light shining through our tireless arms
and laid to shimmering sleep . . .
Monday morning broods
grey breezes on my skin;
I pull on my Good-bye clothes
and walk out of our life
to a prior obligation
And if you wonder
where I am
wherever your thoughts drift when you awake
don’t call me shallow tonight
my love;
I believe in everything
until it disappears.
